Don’t Wait, There’s More

Surrounded by so many successful, accomplished, 'aware' women, I have been thinking a lot about the concept of self actualisation.

Very few women I have coached over the years, wanted more status, more power or more control. Most, if not all, want a life where they feel happy and fulfilled, where they utilise their brilliance to its full potential - where they are self actualised.

Self actualisation is the desire which is present in everyone, to develop our potential to the full.

For me, self actualisation is about not compromising on what is so. It is about constantly evolving and growing. Turning every life event to a learning opportunity. Getting to know who we are and continuously creating who we are 'becoming'.

While the evidence for Self-Actualisation is fairly well known, very few people actually understand what it means, and how to begin to cultivate it.

I think that Self-actualisation is about the next level job, relationship, mindset... I also think it is the driving force beneath our desire to:

  • make a real difference

  • do meaningful work

  • find our calling

  • reach the full potential of what we can do and who we can be

Years ago, on the outside, I had everything I thought I wanted, but inside I felt totally unfulfilled. I knew that there was more. I just didn't know what it was and how to get it!

I was waiting to be discovered (or appreciated)… I was waiting for changes in my external environment (maybe things will be better when the kids grow up and I have more time?)… I was waiting for things to get better... Then one day I realised that no one was coming to give me the opportunity or to provide me the resources I needed to bridge that gap between what I felt possible and the my reality at that time.

To grow and evolve, we must take a stand and commitment to make it happen. These potentials we feel are not something that is going to happen by itself…

When you feel frustrated (with yourself, others in your life or situations), take the opportunity to ask yourself big questions:

  • Are you playing small?

  • What is in your way to have what you want?

  • Why there is such a gap?

  • How have you been generating your own experience?

  • Are you holding yourself back in order to protect yourself from possible disappointments?

Self actualisation is not a destination. It is a life long journey of self growth and development which requires intentionality and commitment.

Like me, you know there is more to life that your current reality. The power to unlock your full potential is in you. Don't wait till something changes in your world before you pursue your ‘next level’ job, or to find your ‘calling’, or even simply discover what makes you happy.

If you ask yourself the right questions and have the courage to look for answers, you place yourself on the path of growth and self actualisation.

As a coach, my role is to support you to be cultivating, growing and developing the power to create your pathway to fully realise your potential.
